#ValidationNation

Hold on. Hold on. Let me catch my breath.

I’ve literally been jumping up and down for a good 30 minutes.

I just found out that I got 2nd place in the La Jolla Light readers' choice awards for Best Trainer of 2015! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?! Just a week after I celebrated my one year anniversary of bringing #FISHMANFIT to San Diego I get this news?! Now, I know what you’re thinking, or maybe it’s just what I’m thinking because I’m a hypercritical, always need to be the best human being...WHY DIDN’T I GET FIRST PLACE?! Ok. I’m going to stop ME right there.

Let’s talk about the world we live in and the way in which we find validation:

How many likes did my post get? How many people told me today that they LOVE, LIKE or are GRATEFUL for me? When am I getting that raise? How about an A+ on that exam?

I’m going to stop myself again because I am such a product of this society and could go on and on and on. The point of this post is to just breath through it. CELEBRATE YOU.

I was just up in LA exploring the yoga culture there with a close friend and we came across this spirit of a woman named Tamara who goes by @cuchira (yes, you should follow her...however she doesn’t “need” your likes). She is the creator of YOGANCE a combination of Yoga and Dance that hones in on your artistic and higher purposes. She is all about the phrase “Be YOU tiful” and lives this mantra every single day.

Wherever you are in life, whatever your mission is, just live to enjoy it. The single most important part of your life is YOU, not the likes, love or praise you get from others. It might be hard to hear or embrace, and believe me I have been there - but seriously, if you’re basing your GREATNESS on someone else’s understanding/belief/idea/validation of you then you will never know how GREAT you really are.

Yes, NUMBER ONE would have been amazing. It would have been extremely satisfying to say that I was voted NUMBER ONE fitness trainer in La Jolla, but I’m BEYOND ELATED with number TWO. It gives me something to fight for, it gives me something to strive for, and most importantly it gives me something to CELEBRATE.

I will always do my best to choose positive over negative and I will always do my best to move you to do the same. Let’s keep on celebrating our success together. I’ll catch you in class, right here on this blog or on social media (where I absolutely love your likes, comments, tags and posts but do not require them for self worth - see I’m always striving to work on this).

Here’s to being the best version of myself which just so happens to be NUMBER TWO (!!!!!!!) in La Jolla.
